Gerald Artur Gilson, was born in Stainforth on 24th November 1935 the youngest of 7, consisting of 2 brothers and 4 sisters, leaving only one remaining sister Phyllis. As a young boy the family moved to The Old Hall in Fishlake. Gerald, better known as Geg to his family and friends had as a young lad a bit of a reputation. He used to ride the sheep and the cattle in the fields, and on many occasions he would be so affraid to go home because his mother would tell him off for smelling of manure. He had various jobs, starting with his national service when he was a young man and where he first met Joyce. They later married on 26 November 1955 and went on to have four children - Terry, Lorraine, Adrian and shelly. His first job was at Askern Saw Mills, where he lost a finger. He also helped Tony Wright for a while. He then worked at Earnshaws Haulage as a lorry driver, delivering and collecting from Hull docks. He often took his family with him and called it a day out, which they enjoyed. Geg also ran his own business as a professional photographer and attended many weddings, he built up his bsiness and bought a property which he and his family enjoyed renovating. His last employment was alorry driver , delivering fashion designs from Stainforth to London. Geg had several hobbies, as well as photography he used to love doing DIY on cars. He was that good, one night coming home after a night out with Joyce, a wheel dropped off his car! On another occasion he went down a lane for a stroll alongside the canal, but instead of walking he nearly reversed the car into it. He also enjoyed being a Radio Am, talking to people all over the world. He liked Astronomy, watching the moon and stars gazing. He loved his garden, especially his rosesand enjoyed planning and designing his families gardens. He did like water, he and his family took many holidays camping or boating on the Norfolk Broads. He later decided to buy a little cruiser of his own, on which he and Joyce and the family spent many happy times. Geg liked socializing with both sides of the family, on many occasions he would get up and sing "Danny Boy" or "The Deck of Cards", and of his late days, he never lost his sense of humour and spirit. He was always laughing and joking and winding up the carers who looked after him. Geg will be sadly missed especially as a husband to Joyce and Dad to children - Terry, Lorraine, Adrian and shelly, grandad to Dean, Elaine, Tania, Dawn, Kelly, Ricky-lee, Richard and Rebecca and great-grandad to several great grandchildren, brother to Phyllis.
